An Inconvenient Truth Wins Two Oscars: Best Documentary and Best Song
Sunday February 25, 2007
Global warming took center stage tonight at the 79th Academy Awards, as An Inconvenient Truth won Academy Awards for Best Documentary and Best Original Song, and former Vice President Al Gore received plenty of air time to urge people around the world to take action now to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Earlier in the evening, Gore, who inspired and starred in the film, shared the stage with actor Leonardo DiCaprio for some banter about Gore's possible run for the presidency in 2008. Gore pretended he was about to announce his candidacy, but the music swelled and cut him off before he could finish. Amid the scripted remarks, however, Gore and DiCaprio exchanged what appeared to be heartfelt praise for the part each has played in raising public awareness about the dangers of global warming.
Technically, the Best Documentary Oscar was awarded to director Davis Guggenheim, but Gore joined Guggenheim and others on stage to accept the award. During his remarks, Gore urged people around the world to get personally involved in the fight to reduce global warming.
"This is not a political issue, it is a moral issue," Gore said. "We have everything we need, with the possible exception of the will to act. And that's a renewable resource. Let's renew it."
Melissa Etheridge won an Oscar for her song, "I Need to Wake Up," which she wrote for the film. In accepting the award, Etheridge thanked Gore for inspiring her and then offered a global call to action that echoed the lyrics of her Oscar-winning song: "We can be the generation that woke up, and did something, and changed."

I am so very disappointed at the growing number of good patriotic Americans who promote this global warming scam, just because they believe our environment is being abused.
Most certainly there is an improvement to be made in our environmental quality, but for sure one does not have to be a believer in the “man made global warming” hoax to be a conservationist or an advocate for a cleaner environment. Good husbandry of our resources is not only a responsibility, but an obligation that each of us have.
We also have an obligation not to promote rubbish under the guise of good husbandry. And rubbish is what this global warming propaganda is. To say that global warming is man made and to advocate the hamstringing of our economic progress to remedy the problem is both the height of arrogance and the epitome of stupidity.
Wise men understand that climate change occurs naturally on our earth and has done so for thousands of years.
From various online sources, we can find that a number of happenings occur naturally that would have some effect on world climate, whether major or minor.
There are many reasons for climate change to which we should give our review before we talk trash and parrot the lines of those with an agenda who want to bring America to her knees. And if you can’t grasp that agenda, that you best just shut the hell up till you do understand, so that you don’t advocate your own destruction and mine too!!!
Here are 10 of the more obvious reasons for climate change.
1. Solar cycles.
2. Changes in the planet’s orbital plane and position over time.
3. Changes in plane and position of the Planets rotational axis over time.
4. Tectonic Plate Movement.
5. Major Astronomical events like large meteorite or comet impacts.
6. The result of increasing carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gasses whether or not they are from man made sources.
7. Changes in the hydrologic cycles on the planet’s surface and atmosphere.
8. Increases or reduction of various life forms on the planet and their effect on the climate.
9. Changes in the planets Albedo and how they can accelerate or decelerate the process.
10. The effects of Volcanism.
All of the preceding reasons can have an effect on each other and certain combinations will have a greater or lesser effect depending on other combining circumstances.
During the last interglacial period our earth was quite a bit hotter than it is today. There have also been times then the earth has been frozen solid from pole to pole and other times when the planet has had no ice caps at all.
The fact is that earth climate change is beyond our control.
Simply stated, it is unmitigated arrogance to think that man has more than a miniscule effect on climate change.
Further simply stated, one has to be brainwashed with the word “Stupid” or “Gullible” written on his fore head to believe that man is the primary cause of any global climate change.

Re-read your own #’s 6-9, we have an impact on these and other things everyday. I am a little curious to know what you do for a living, what you are using as sources, and what hole in the earth you’ve been living in that you are so oblivious to the impacts we can and do have on our world, whether they are immediately visible from the confines of our detached, artificial lives or not. Believe what you will, it’s obvious your mind is made up. However, for the “good Americans” out there, I encourage you to do your own research from a variety of scientific sources, and come to your own conclusions, instead of being compelled to believe anything based on raw emotion, one-sided propaganda, or partial science. In any case, Bob, name-calling only makes you sound petty, and does nothing to validate your argument. Have a nice day.
I love it when somebody like rotfl calls somebody a name like he just did then moans about people name-calling. A rediculous trait to be sure.
As to reading about Global Warming on our own and coming to our own conclusions, millions have. And their conclusion inconveniently goes against the official “consensus.” And remember, a trillion flies cant be wrong. Manure must be good for you. That is their consensus view.
indeed, there are natural causes and human causes of global warming. but if we’ll study about it thoroughly, for sure, we will conclude that human causes have greater impacts to climate change. yes, there are natural causes like earth’s orbital patterns and astronomical factors but it will take millions of years before it effects. compared with that of human causes such as deforestation and carbon dioxide emission, the effects are felt RIGHT now – and we are all at stake! we are all responsible of saving our planet because we are the culprits of its destruction.
Bob,
All we can do is give them time to realise.
In the meantime, don’t let them interfere with your own enjoyment of life in the twenty-first century. They sure ain’t going to interfere with mine!
