Toxic Waste in Alaska: Pollution on The Last Frontier
Thursday June 7, 2007
Alaska is dotted with thousands of toxic waste sites that may be polluting drinking water for a majority of Alaskans and posing serious health risks for residents and wildlife alike, according to a previously unpublished report that was uncovered by Public Employees for Environmental Responsibility. But that may not be the worst of it. Photo of the Harvard Glacier in Alaska, courtesy of Sharon Brucker

This report is the biggest crock. There are hundreds of sites in Alaska that include everything from old military installations to a single drum (often empty) left on the side of a road. The reaminder, in total, are probably less hazardous than a typical RCRA cleanup site in the lower 48. Plus using an employee survey taken shortly after the Governor had pretty much gutted the agency with layoffs will always get you an accurate picture of their capabilities. If this is the caliber reporting of this site, I won’t be back
