First Anniversary of Steve Irwin’s Death to Pass Quietly—and in Prime Time
Since Crocodile Hunter Steve Irwin's death a year ago, his 9-year-old daughter Bindi Sue has become an international star in her own right, with a hit TV series, a magazine column and her own fashion label. As a tribute to her celebrated father on the first anniversary of his death, Bindi Sue Irwin will host My Daddy, The Crocodile Hunter on Saturday, September 1, at 7:30 p.m., on the Nine Network.Terri and Bindi Sue Irwin at the Australia Zoo.

During the one-hour program, Bindi Sue will show previously unseen home videos and share her memories of her early childhood as the daughter of world-famous environmentalist and television personality Steve Irwin, whose trademark cry of “Crikey!” was familiar to millions of fans worldwide.
The program also will include footage of Bindi Sue working with her father on his last research trip before he was killed by a stingray barb to the heart in a fluke diving accident at Batt Reef in Queensland, Australia.
On Monday, September 3, the Nine Network also will broadcast Secrets of the Crocodile, which is hosted and narrated by Steve Irwin’s widow Terri. The program, which shows Irwin on his last adventure with crocodiles, will air at 7:30 p.m.
Despite all of this prime-time activity commemorating the life and death of Steve Irwin, the Irwin family will take a low-key approach to the occasion. Terri Irwin is taking her children—Bindi Sue and 3-year-old Bob—on a wilderness camping trip.
The Australia Zoo, the Sunshine Coast wildlife park founded by Irwin’s parents and made famous by their crocodile-hunting son, will open as usual on September 4—the actual anniversary of Steve Irwin’s death—but no ceremonies or tributes are planned for the day. Instead, the Irwin family has proposed November 15 as Steve Irwin Day. On that day, the Australia Zoo will hold several events to raise money for conservation, in honor of Steve Irwin’s work.
