The Pros and Cons of Biofuels

Wednesday February 13, 2008
President Bush has made ethanol a cornerstone of his long-term energy strategy, but can biofuels such as ethanol and biodiesel really cure America's addiction to oil? Some experts believe that widespread use of ethanol and other plant-based biofuels is unrealistic, because of the amount of farm land and energy required to produce them. Learn more about the pros and cons of biofuels.

I think that it was horrible when they found out about oil in Penneslyvania and Texas. The first car went on Ethanol! They should of kept it that way!

Current and planned ethanol production in the US will only supply 10% of our automotive fuel needs. Increased corn production plus diversion of foreign corn sales will account for the fuel production. It’s something, but not nearly enough. We need to change lifestyles: more foot and pedal bike traffic; changes in zoning laws to allow us to live again in the neighborhoods where we work.

By suppoerting biofuels, the only way you’re going GREEN is by putting GREEN in the pockets of big corporations! It’s a marketing gimmick! I’m shocked that Americans could be so blind.

Switching to biofuels will indirectly destroy the Amazon rainforest. Where do you think all those displaced soy farmers go? We would LOVE to have a better fuel source, but we and our planet NEED the rainforest!! IF YOU REALLY WANT TO SAVE THE ENVIRONMENT, SAVE THE RAINFOREST!
