Are Smart Cars Safe and Economical—or Just Small?
Thursday September 25, 2008
What's so smart about Smart Cars? Sure, their small size (at first glance, they seem to be no bigger than a large roller skate) makes them easy to maneuver in and out of city traffic, and you can park them almost anywhere, but does their small profile translate into big savings on fuel? And what about safety? Can a car the size of your shoe keep you safe on the road? Learn more about Smart Car safety and fuel economy, and whether they're worth the sticker price, by clicking on the link and reading the article.

Larry,
I have a Smart FourTwo car here in the UK and have been most impressed by it.
I bought it brand new 5 years ago.
It returns 55mpg and is good for 410 miles on a full tank of gas. 7.5 gallon tank Petrol.
The Diesel model will return 100mpg.
Fitted with a turbo charger the car is very impressive.
Most cars can outstrip me in a straight line but when it comes to corners especially tight ones they are simply left standing.
On motorways I can maintain 70mph which is our legal speed limit and on the hills leave many other vehicles with more powerful engines in my wake.
Okay it is not a Rolls Royce or even an Aston Martin but value for money it is brilliant.
How many cars do you know of that can be driven at 73mph into a concrete block and the driver gets out unharmed and the 2 doors are still working.
In defence of the Smart car
Survivable crash at 73mph? Doors still function? What color is the sky in your world?
