An Inconvenient Truth Nominated for Two Oscars
Wednesday January 24, 2007
Drum roll, please. The Academy Award nominations are out, and An Inconvenient Truth—former Vice President Al Gore’s riveting and disturbing documentary film about global warming—has been nominated for not one, but two Oscars. As expected, An Inconvenient Truth picked up a nomination for best documentary, but the slide-show-turned-movie also earned a nomination for best song: Melissa Etheridge’s I Need to Wake Up. An Inconvenient Truth has already become one of the most popular and widely viewed documentaries in history, and two Oscar nominations is sure to increase its audience as more people wake up to the idea that something important is happening—on screen and in the atmosphere.
There has been no word yet on whether Al’s tuxedo will be made of hemp or organic cotton, or whether Tipper’s gowns will be one of the hot new eco-fashions coming out of New York or California., but there is plenty of time to figure that out between now and February 25, when the 79th Academy Awards will be telecast live from Hollywood at 5 p.m. PST (8 p.m. EST).
