Cross-Border Pollution: A Growing International Problem
National boundaries do nothing to impede the movement of wind and water. As a result, pollution from one country often causes environmental problems in another, creating a dilemma for both nations as they try to work through diplomatic channels to assess the damage, assign blame and develop practical solutions. Cross-border pollution is becoming a serious environmental problem worldwide, and nowhere is that more evident than in Asia, where China's explosive economic growth is causing environmental impacts that are moving beyond its own borders to plague its neighbors.
