Where Can You Buy Ethanol?

Question: Where Can You Buy Ethanol?
Ethanol may be good for the environment, and the economy, and provide a high-octane alternative to gasoline, but how easy is it to find fueling stations that sell ethanol or ethanol blends?

Answer: Fueling stations that carry E85, a blend of 85 percent ethanol and 15 percent gasoline, are available in every U.S. state. Altogether, more than 900 public E85 fueling stations are available across the United States, although the majority are located in the Midwest.

The U.S. Department of Energy provides a station locator to help consumers find stations that carry E85 and other ethanol fuels.

Many vehicles are already equipped to use ethanol
Flexible fuel vehicles that use E85 are also widely available. As of 2005, the National Ethanol Vehicle Coalition estimated that approximately 5 million flexible fuel vehicles have already been sold in the United States, although many buyers don’t realize they could be using E85 in their cars and trucks.

Is Your Car Equipped to Use Ethanol?
To find out if you are driving an E85-compatible flexible fuel vehicle, check your owner's manual, ask your dealer, or check the list of current flexible fuel vehicles provided by the U.S. Department of Energy.
