Halloween is spooky by nature but it doesn't have to be a scary time for the environment. If you celebrate green Halloweens, how about sharing tips that help you and your family have an eco-friendly Halloween celebration?

Instead of buying decorations made of synthetic materials, decorate the inside and outside of your home with natural materials like bales of hay, real pumpkins, flowers, leaves and nuts. You can also make scarecrows out of scrap lumber, straw and old clothes.

I Give Coins for Halloween

I don't like giving kids unhealthy "treats" for Halloween, so whenever they ring the bell on Halloween, I just give each child a bunch of change. I'm sure they enjoy getting money more than candy!

We make the most of our pumpkins

My family enjoys carving pumpkins--but not just because they add to the Halloween atmosphere. We save the seeds and toast them in the oven with a little salt. When our Halloween evening is over we use the pumpkin flesh (discarding any melted wax) to make pumpkin pie, pumpkin soup and pumpkin bread. For us, Halloween is fun and delicious.
