From the article: Paper, Plastic, or Something Better?
More and more people are carrying reusable bags when they shop, and many retailers encourage or even reward the practice. How about you? Do you still make a choice between paper and plastic at the check-out stand, or do you prefer to say "neither" and pull out your own bags? Share Your Reasons
reduce plastic
- My apartment get very cluttered with plastic bags. Reusuable bags reduce this and save our precious resources. FYI I bought a "variety pack" of different bags for different uses online.

Great Bags- Washable and foldable
- It took me a while to get used to carrying the bags. What helped me was carrying around compact polyester bags, which I not only use for groceries but for all my purchases and for travel. GO GREEN!

In emergency what to do?
- Yes, it is always good to carry a reusable, washable and longer lasting bag. But practically, it is difficult to carry one everywhere. In an emergency, what is the best thing to do?

Why to blame plastic bags
- It is a well written article. However, may I ask all of you, why we litter everything, which we don't require? Is it due to our habit? Can we not improve our habit and educate others.

I use REUSABLE shopping bags
- I make my own reusable bags from junk. I'm a sustainable graphic designer, I make things from junk. One way to help the environment is to inspire as many people as possible to precycle and recycle. We must reduce the amount of junk that ends in landfills and damages our ecosystem.

Of course!
- I have grocery bags in my car that I made from fabric and they carry quite a bit of weight. We also reduced the amount of plastic snack bags in our home by 100% as I began making them! Reducing the waste not only helps the environment, it really gives your kids a sense of responsibility and in today's society of "use it once and throw it away." It's not just about the environment. It's about social responsibility and passing that on to our children and being a good example to others around us (I have gotten at least 1 person at work and a couple family members to also try reusing bags!) It's a start. :)

Yes, I carry bags
- I also keep mine in the car. And I keep a small nylon bag (one of the ones that folds into a tiny pouch) inside my purse, for those times when I'm caught without my stash of reusable bags. It just makes sense environmentally. I can't think of a reason not to do it. And for most produce, I don't use the clear plastic bags in the supermarket. I just put the bunch of broccoli or the head of lettuce right into my cart. When I check out, it goes into my reusable bag, and then into the crisper drawer of the fridge when I get home. A lot of people look at me funny at the checkout stand, and sometimes the cashier's conveyer belt gets wet (which gets cleaned up with a paper towel), but it's a small price to pay to save 5 or 6 plastic bags every time I go to the grocery store.

disposable but friendly
- When I go shopping in stores, I carry my own bags. I buy my vegetables straight from the farmer, and wrap them in taro leaves, which grow like crazy here (Taiwan). When the leaves are no longer usable, they go back to the soil.

reusable bags, yes
- I keep reusable bags in the car so they're handy when I go to the store. At times when a reusable bag isn't available I opt for paper, and use it to collect other recyclable items for trash day. When the bag is worn out, I recycle that too.
